Hired as sole technical expert by start-up that grew to UK’s leading battery storage developer with >25% market share by 2020; advised Harmony for three years as consultant (as below) prior to joining as CTO. Built team from scratch to ten cross-functional and multidisciplinary specialists (engineers, PMs) that designed and delivered portfolio of 1GW of grid-stabilising battery storage systems and solar projects across ten sites in UK and New Zealand. Created first-of-its-kind real-time trading and control platform that provides value-based asset management and portfolio optimisation, significantly maximising revenue opportunities for Harmony, and managing a complex range of stakeholders at Tesla and National Grid. Drove scalability and skills growth, developing developed training materials and delivering training sessions for team.

Headhunted by civil and environmental consultancy to establish electrical energy capability; grew division from start up to 22 multidisciplinary engineers designing energy projects. Spearheaded integrated approach between Sweco’s divisions (Electrical, Civil, Environment) and markets (UK, Sweden, Denmark) that delivered 35% additional annual revenue for theenergy team. Provided technical and regulatory advisory services to renewable energy project developers, including for new battery storage market. Key engagements included three years advising Harmony Energy (see above). Due diligence of Flow Battery and Technical advisor for M&A of Battery Storage Developer with portfolio over half a GW ready to build sites.

Played key role in integrating oil and gas engineers into renewables business, upon acquisition of Econnect by Senergy, creating team of 35. Created market opportunity for Senergy in offshore wind sector. Advised National Grid for grid stability and transmission projects, high-value, first-of-their-kind infrastructure projects that connected renewables to the grid. Designed and delivered system and grid connections for wind, solar, and tidal projects. Identified new inertia deficit concept on the grid and created various options to resolve this challenge, which subsequently created the inertia market in the UK.

Grew Power Engineers into a specialist HV design consultancy; built team from three to 20 engineers designing and commissioning HV substations and Power Transformers up to 765kV.
