I was asked by the Group CEO to create and lead a Corporate H&S Function with global responsibility for health & safety, food safety and business continuity. Key Accomplishments: Reduced global accident rates by 50% and shifted the safety culture of the Group by improving: GOVERNANCE: Developed global H&S policy, 5-year strategy, management system, and standards. LEADERSHIP: Created Group reporting processes, governance reports and benchmarking. Created the first global training program for senior leaders. COMMUNICATIONS: Designed and implemented an award-winning global H&S communications program. RISK: Designed the H&S risk architecture as part of the enterprise risk approach. IT SYSTEMS: Implemented a global H&S reporting and information tool (ca. 15,000 global users). HEALTH & WELLBEING: Established Occupational Health reporting protocols and baselines. FOOD SAFETY: Successfully developed and deployed a global food safety policy and strategy.

As head of the UK Group Internal Audit team I was responsible for a team of 8 people leading audits of global and UK risk topics. Key Accomplishments: Worked with the Executive team to redesign the Internal Audit Function, shifting the focus from reactive auditing at the operating site level to proactively addressing systemic root causes. Identified gaps in the corporate risk methodology and expanded the scope beyond financial risk.

I was responsible for the UK-based Financial Control Internal Audit Group of 15 people which, together with a similar team in Chicago, was responsible for all global internal financial control audits of the BP Group. Key Accomplishments: Led the strategic design and implementation of the global Financial Audit Group. Led, in coordination with KPMG, a World Class Financial Controls program and fraud reporting program.

I was responsible for the Downstream (Refining and Marketing) risk management approach. Key Accomplishments: Designed and deployed risk management methodology for Downstream business ($30Bn capital).

Responsible for risk management of 1,600 UK fuel Service Stations. Key Accomplishments: Designed and implemented a risk management methodology for the UK retail business.

Responsible for leading internal audits and consulting with business leaders on specific risk challenges. Key Accomplishments: Led high-profile audits including oil trading operations and Group Replacement Cost accounting. Led review and improvement of Operational and Financial controls in newly acquired Eastern European LPG and Retail businesses.

Responsible for Corporate audits of Oil, Gas, and Chemicals businesses throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East. Key Accomplishments: Identified several critical business issues, including a financial fraud, resulting in early promotion.

Following qualification with KPMG as a Chartered Accountant, I worked in the firm's risk advisory team, with responsibility for clients including several of the largest UK pension funds. Key Accomplishments: Successfully delivered multiple complex client risk and compliance projects and reviews.

Following a summer internship, I won a scholarship from GEC to study Electronic Engineering and worked for the company while studying for a 4 year sandwich degree at Lancaster University. Key Accomplishments: During my summer internship, I recommended the automation of a manual production process. This played a key role in my securing employment and a scholarship from the company.
