Directed Opel’s 8,500 employee strong Manufacturing Center in the Northrhine-Westfalian city of Bochum that produced Opel Astra and Zafira vehicles and also served as a component manufacturing center of engines, stampings, chassis components and subassemblies for numerous GM assembly plants in Europe. Responsible for the launch of Opel Astra Caravan Opel Zafira. Led major restructuring of the Bochum manufacturing center in pursuit of GM’s contiguous stamping and component strategy.

Overall Human Resource responsibility for this entity producing the Opel Vectra and Astra models and employing 7,800 people. Supported “brownfield conversion” of Antwerp and designed, implemented and taught a comprehensive HR system in support of lean manufacturing. At the time, Antwerp was recognized by GM as a GM University campus for brownfield conversion, teaching its curriculum to HR leaders from around the world, including GM’s Global HR Leadership Team.

Led the design and implementation of cost efficient manpower reductions and pension schemes. Represented GM Europe in industry groups and led the social policy lobbying efforts with the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, in support of crafting joint industry positions on emerging European legislation.
